I had a revelation…and no, it had nothing to do with the end of the world. It had more to do with the beginning.
I am not religious. That’s not to say that I don’t believe in doing things religiously – I just don’t pray to something that hasn’t proved to me that it exists. To be honest, I’d sooner believe in Santa Clause. However, I do believe that there are stories that were written in the bible by men that contain morals that can be incorporated or discarded.
One thing I do believe is that man was created in god’s image – when man looks in the mirror, he sees himself – so who is god.
Anyway, I was thinking about the story of the Tower of Babel. Basically, all people spoke the same language until they got together to build a tower. When god saw this tower, he decided to, “confound their language” and scatter them across the planet.
The way I see it, god punished the people for working together to build something great.
What if we all believed in Kennedy’s words when he said, “Our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s future. And we are all mortal.” I may be naïve but I think if we pooled all of our talents with every country on this planet, we would be able accomplish wonders beyond our imagination.
Until then, we are going to have to endure our present condition, which I have to admit, is not optimistic. Ironically, it seems as if we are inching closer to an apocalypse to rival Revelations.
